Tempted in Every Way

Jesus endured more suffering that most of us could imagine, but He also endured a greater level of temptation.

That's right, Jesus faced it too.

In addition to the three recorded temptations He received directly from the devil (Matthew 4), the Bible also reveals that He was tempted "in every way, just as we are."

This encourages me for two reasons:

1.) Temptation can be overcome. Jesus said "NO" every time He was tempted, and, by His power, I can as well. The war against sin is winnable.  (Sure, Jesus had a bit of an advantage over me in this department, but still, the fact that He successfully stayed pure in His life gives me some hope for mine.)

2.) When I face temptation, Jesus understands what I feel.
Hebrews 4:14-16 explains:

"We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may recieve mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

Are you facing temptations today that seem overpowering? Do you need the mercy and grace of God to deliver you? Is this your "time of need?" Call upon God with confidence. Our high priest, Jesus Christ, understands your struggles. He knows what you are facing. And He knows how to overcome it.
