As a Loving Father
Our human fathers can fail and do wrong...but not God. He offers the
perfect, undying love that we long for...the security of a love not
based on performance or appearance. He loves us for who we are because
He created us! His love is totally undeserved...it can't be earned,
bought, or manipulated. He will never leave you or forsake you.

Reflecting on the activities of John the Baptist (Luke 3, Mark 1), I'm thinking he serves as a great example of what you and I should be striving for in life. Consider what John did:

Most people get the impression from churches that God is after your
wallet (as if He needed your money to keep His kingdom in the black).
Interestingly, the Apostle Paul teaches a principle in 2 Corinthians 8
that is simply this: God doesn't want your money unless He has you.

E.M. Bounds wrote in his book Power Through
Prayer that, "All [God's] mighty forces could come down on the
hopeless, savage wilderness and transform it into a blooming and
fruitful garden; for nothing is too hard for God to do if He can get
the right kind of man to do it."
God is in the business of restoration -- remaking a world that has been
overrun by sin into a kingdom so glorious that it rivals his original
"very good" creation (Genesis 1). In other words, God is restoring,
revitalizing, and renewing His purposes on earth, even now.

I used to believe that work, unless you were a pastor or a missionary, was "earthly," and that "spiritual, meaningful things" were limited to prayer, worship, Bible reading, preaching, etc.

Time with God. Faithfulness in the morning. Prayer. Feeling guilty yet?

"But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for
it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'" (1 Peter 1:15-16)
Lord, couldn't you make it just a little easier? How about, "Be holier
than most people," or "Be as holy as you can," or even, "Be the holiest
person in the world." But holy as YOU are holy? That's impossible!

We hear the word "ministry" used in different ways: a nation might have a "ministry" of defense, a church might have a paid "ministry" leader or "minister," and those of us in church regularly are invited to participate in "ministry" to children, the poor, etc.

"Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life
does not consist in the abudance of his possessions" (Luke 12:15).
This warning from Jesus puts us on notice regarding one of the most
dangerous temptations human beings face: greed. Consider the fact that
the lust for "more" will:

If you've read the Bible, undoubtedly you've come across the term "disciple." What does it mean? After all, Jesus said that people who wanted to be disciples would have to deny themselves, give up everything for His sake, and follow Him forever.
