Modern John the Baptist?

Reflecting on the activities of John the Baptist (Luke 3, Mark 1), I'm thinking he serves as a great example of what you and I should be striving for in life.  Consider what John did:

1. He honored the purpose God had for his life.
"There came a man who was sent from God . . ." (John 1:6).

2. He called people to change their ways, and did so boldly.
"Produce fruit in keeping with repentance" (Luke 3:8).

3. He pointed people to Jesus, not himself.
"I baptize you with water,
but one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandels I
am not worthy to untie" (Luke 3:16).

4. He was in charge of preparing the way for the Lord's coming.

"Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him" (Luke 3:4).

While we might not be called to wander in the wilderness and baptize
people, we have been called to surrender to the will of God, call
others to repentance, point them to Jesus, and prepare the way for our
Lord's second coming.

Challenge: Think of one creative way you can share the message of Jesus with others this week. Then, do it.
