Straight & Narrow?

You've probably heard your grandma mention the need for some wandering soul to get back on the "straight and narrow" - what's that all about?

It's actually a reference to something Jesus taught, about a "narrow" way to life.  He said...“You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way. But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14, NLT)

The Narrow Gate

The gateway speaks of the time when you first put your faith and trust
in Jesus Christ to rescue you from your sins and to make you a new
person. Like crossing a line, this is a one-time event — a point of
turnaround, faith, and decision.

This gateway is so small that we cannot bring anything along with us.
We must lay down our old lives, aspirations, and priorities, or we will
never fit through the gate. Once on the other side, we are able to pick
up new lives, dreams, and values — those in line with the will of our
new Master, Jesus Christ.

The Narrow Road

You are standing on the other side of the gateway, just handed this new
life, new power, and new purpose — what now? Jesus made it clear that
those who seek eternal life must faithfully travel along the “narrow
road.” How?

1. Seek God's Kingdom first, above everything else in your life. Make Him your priority.

2. Examine the type of life Jesus lived (by reading the Bible) and
begin to follow His example of courage, love, sacrifice, and vision.

3. Share your new life in God with others around you. Whatever
resistance you may encounter, never give up. Keep loving people and
following the pattern of Jesus. There is much to look forward to at the
end of the road!

Challenge: Have you passed through the narrow gate? That's the first
step. And how about the narrow road? Are you walking daily on the “road
that leads to life?”
