Watch out for Greed

"Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abudance of his possessions" (Luke 12:15).

This warning from Jesus puts us on notice regarding one of the most dangerous temptations human beings face: greed. Consider the fact that the lust for "more" will:

- Distract you from your purpose in life.
- Distort your priorities.
- Degrade your potential.
- Delay your spiritual and financial progress in life.
- Destroy God's plan for your future.

Strong words? The Apostle Paul said it clearly, "People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs" (1 Timothy 6:9-10).

How easy it is to spend more time checking our portfolio than in prayer with God; more time thinking about what we'd do with more possessions than what we are doing to help the people around us. Money itself is a wonderful thing, but loving money is a dangerous passion.

There are more important things that deserve the best of your life.

Challenge: Evaluate your priorities today. What means the most to you? What "rank" does the pursuit of money have compared to spiritual devotion, family, friends, loving Christ, or sharing Jesus' message with others? How could you guard yourself against growing to attached to money?
