#7 Biblical Sex

When God designed the world, He intended for marriage to be between one man and woman woman for one lifetime. That standard has never changed.

The seventh commandment explains: "You shall not commit adultery."

God takes sex seriously. He created sex to be a wonderful expression of love and intimacy between a man and a woman, to be experienced between those who have made a lifelong marriage commitment to one another. Sadly, many people ignore this commandment, using sex as a tool for selfish pleasure - and in doing so rob themselves of the real joy God intended.

What does the Bible say about sexual purity?

- Jesus said: "I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully
has already committed adultery with her in his heart" (Matt. 5:28).

- "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure,
for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral" (Heb.
13:4).

What does the Bible say about having sex with your husband/wife?

- "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united
to his wife, and the two will become one flesh" (Eph. 5:31).

- "Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth, for your love is more
delightful than wine...take me away with you, let us hurry!" (Song of
Songs 1:2-4).

- "The wife's body does not belong to her alone, but also to her
husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him
alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other..." (1 Cor.
7:4-5).

God made us sexual creatures to increase the joy of our lives.
Instead
of squandering and polluting that joy through lust, adultery and other
evils, why not seek the richest fulfillment possible by following the
Creator's plan for marriage and sex?

Practice the Commandment: Read over 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 in the Bible,
as a guide to help you keep the seventh commandment, both in letter and
in spirit. Don't let lust, adultery, or pre-marital sex steal the joy
of passion, love, and marriage from you!

Note: If you're still waiting for the right person to come along, don't cheat yourself in the meantime by engaging in immoral behavior.  You not only disobey God, you rob passion and pleasure from your future spouse.  Keep your marriage bed pure; and even more importantly, keep your heart pure.
